Day 3 of the 60-Day Challenge.
You’ve made it past the awkward first date with blogging.
Now it’s time to get serious about your niche.
Today, we’re diving deep into niche research, and don’t worry, we’ll do it without losing our minds (or drinking our entire coffee stash).
🤔 Why Does Niche Research Matter?
Choosing a niche without research is like trying to cook lasagna without knowing what a noodle is.
You might end up with something edible, but it’s gonna be weird.
Here’s why research is key:
- You avoid wasting time on topics no one cares about.
- You position yourself in a space where people are already spending money.
- You can attract traffic faster because your content answers what people are already searching for.
Let’s break it down in a way that doesn’t make your eyes glaze over.
🧠 Step 1: Understand the 3 Golden Rules of a Profitable Niche
When picking a niche, you want something that hits the sweet spot of:
Rule |
Why It Matters |
Passion |
You’ll be creating tons of content. If you hate it, you’ll quit. |
Problem-solving |
People pay for solutions. No pain point = no payday. |
Profitability |
Is there money in it? Are others already making cash in this space? |
If your niche ticks all three boxes, congratulations!
You’re not totally lost in the internet jungle.
🔍 Step 2: Explore Broad Categories
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
Some categories are always profitable:
- Health & Fitness – Keto, Yoga for Dads, Intermittent Fasting for Dogs (okay maybe not that last one… yet)
- Wealth & Business – Side hustles, investing, crypto, how to start an alpaca farm
- Love & Relationships – Dating tips, parenting, surviving in-laws
- Lifestyle & Hobbies – Travel, home decor, bullet journaling, model trains
Start broad, then narrow down to something more specific.
Hold on there!

🕵️ Step 3: Stalk the Internet (The Legal Way)
1. Use Google Suggest
Go to Google and type in your niche idea.
Google will auto-suggest search terms.
That’s gold!
Type “vegan breakfast ideas” and boom:
- vegan breakfast ideas high protein
- vegan breakfast ideas for weight loss
- vegan breakfast ideas no tofu
Each one of those could be its own article, and people are literally looking for them.
2. Check Out Pinterest
Pinterest is a keyword party.
Just type in your topic and see what pins show up.
Pay attention to:
- Number of pins
- Engagement (repins, comments)
- Visual trends (Canva is gonna be your BFF soon)
3. Spy on Amazon
Search for books in your niche.
Check the reviews.
Are people buying and complaining about the same things?
Example: If you see 300 people griping about how hard it is to meal prep vegan food, ding-ding-ding!
That’s a niche problem you can solve.
📈 Step 4: Use Free Tools to Check Profit Potential
Here are some tools that won’t ask you to donate a kidney:
Google Trends
See if your niche is growing, stable, or dying faster than your houseplants.
Ubersuggest (by Neil Patel)
Search for keyword volumes and get content ideas.
Pinterest Trends
Just go to trends.pinterest.com and snoop around.
Look at seasonal spikes and what’s trending.
Answer the Public
Type in a keyword and get a map of every weird and wonderful question people are asking.
💰 Step 5: Test Monetization Potential
The niche might be trendy, but does it actually pay?
Let’s check:
✅ Affiliate Programs
Go to:
- ClickBank.com
- Amazon Associates
- ShareASale.com
- LegendaryMarketer.com
Search for your niche.
Are there affiliate products?
✅ Info Products
Are people selling courses, ebooks, or memberships in your niche?
If yes, there’s money.
✅ Ad Potential
Are there niche blogs running ads?
If yes, Google AdSense or Mediavine could earn you passive income.
🚦Step 6: Validate with Facebook Groups and Reddit
Jump into:
- Facebook Groups – Look for groups with 10k+ members and see what people are talking about
- Reddit – Search subreddits like r/blogging, r/entrepreneur, or niche-specific ones
If the community is active, engaged, and slightly obsessed, you’ve found something real.
🧪 Bonus: Create a Niche Scorecard
Use this table to rate your ideas on a scale from 1 to 5:
Criteria |
Score (1-5) |
Passion Level |
|
Solves a Real Problem |
|
Market Demand |
|
Low Competition |
|
Monetization Options |
Add up the score.
Anything 20+ is worth exploring.
Anything 15 or below… might be better as a hobby.
Like juggling cats.
Fun, but not recommended.
🧠 Example
Let’s say you’re interested in fitness.
Too broad.
After digging, you realize:
- Many women in their 40s are searching for low-impact home workouts
- Pinterest is flooded with “over 40 fitness” pins
- Affiliate programs for yoga mats, supplements, and programs exist
You niche down to: Home Workouts for Women Over 40. Boom.
💡 Recap – Your Niche Checklist
Before moving on, make sure your niche:
- ✅ Interests you at least a little (you’ll be writing a lot)
- ✅ Solves a real problem
- ✅ Has existing products or affiliate programs
- ✅ Has people searching for answers (use Google/Pinterest)
- ✅ Isn’t a ghost town online
🏁 Your Mission for Day 3
Alright, detective, here’s what you need to do:
- Brainstorm at least 5 niche ideas.
- Run them through the checklist above.
- Validate with Google, Pinterest, Amazon, and Reddit.
- Narrow it down to ONE winner.
- Lock it in. Tattoo it on your heart. Or at least your notes app.
👋 Here’s the thing
Finding your niche is like dating.
The first few might be awkward, some are outright disasters, but when you find the one… you just know.
Let’s keep working and improving.
See you tomorrow for the next step.
