Day 5 of the 60-Day Online Income Challenge!
At this point, you probably have a few niche ideas floating around in your brain.
Maybe too many.
It’s like a Netflix queue of blog topics.
But before you commit to one and start building your blogging empire, you need to do a very important thing: niche validation.
Yep.
It’s time to put your niche through the wringer to see if it’s got what it takes: demand and potential profit, without a digital army of competitors who’ve already claimed the throne.
Let’s break it down step-by-step like a dance tutorial (minus the awkward two-step).
What is Niche Validation, Anyway?
Niche validation is just a fancy way of saying:
“Does this niche have enough people who care about it, AND can I realistically compete in it?”
You’re checking for two key ingredients:
- Demand – Are people searching for this topic? Are they spending money on it?
- Competition – Are there already a million blogs doing the exact same thing?
Your goal?
Find that sweet spot where people are hungry for content… but not already overwhelmed by choices.
Think of it like opening a taco truck: yes, people love tacos (demand), but if there are 42 other taco trucks on the same street (competition), you’re in trouble.
Hold on there!

Unless you’ve got a secret guacamole recipe… then we’re talking.
Step 1: Search Volume – Are People Looking for This?
The first thing you need to know: Are people even Googling this stuff?
Tools to Use:
- Google Keyword Planner (free, but requires Google Ads setup)
- Ubersuggest (free with limited searches)
- AnswerThePublic (great for topic ideas and demand clues)
- Google Trends (to see if your niche is growing or dying like MySpace)
What to Look For:
Metric |
What You Want |
Monthly Searches |
1,000+ is a good start |
Consistent Trends |
Spikes are OK, but stable interest is gold |
Keyword Variations |
Multiple related keywords mean broader appeal |
🔍Type your main keyword into Google and look at the autofill suggestions.
If Google is finishing your sentence, that’s a good sign!
Step 2: Check Out the Competition (a.k.a. Digital Spying)
You want demand, but you also want a fighting chance.
If the top search results are all giant authority sites, like Forbes, Healthline, or BuzzFeed, you might be in trouble.
How to Scope It Out:
- Google It. Type in your main niche keyword.
- Analyze Page 1. Are the top results:
- Big brands?
- Forums and small blogs? (That’s good!)
- YouTube videos? (Can be an opportunity!)
- Use Ubersuggest or MozBar (install the MozBar Chrome extension) to see the Domain Authority (DA).
Domain Authority (DA) |
What it Means |
80+ |
Massive competition (tread carefully) |
50-70 |
Moderate competition |
Under 40 |
Easier to rank! |
🕵️♂️If you see Pinterest pages or Quora posts ranking, there may be room for you to sneak in with a solid blog post.
Step 3: Money Talks – Is There Profit Potential?
Okay, cool.
People are searching, and competition looks manageable.
But will it PAY?
Look for These Money Signals:
1. Affiliate Programs
Go to:
Search for products in your niche.
If you see:
- High commissions
- Lots of product variety
- Recurring commissions (hello, software!)
Then congrats, you may have hit the jackpot.
2. Digital Products
Courses, ebooks, templates, printables.
If people are selling it, you can either promote it or create your own later.
Cha-ching.
3. Pinterest Traffic
Go to Pinterest.
Type in your niche.
See what pins show up.
- Are people sharing helpful blog content?
- Are the pins aesthetically drool-worthy?
- Can you imagine your own content fitting in?
Step 4: Audience Passion
It’s not all about money and rankings.
You want people who are obsessed with this topic.
Here’s how to check:
- Reddit: Search your niche on Reddit. Are there active communities?
- Facebook Groups: Find niche groups. Are people asking questions? Engaging?
- Quora: Are there loads of questions in your topic?
If you find a bunch of people arguing about keto snacks or gardening hacks, you’re golden.
Passionate people = repeat readers = trust = sales.
Step 5: Bonus Checklist – Validate Like a Pro
Here’s a simple checklist to make sure your niche passes the test:
Validation Question |
Yes/No |
Do at least 1,000 people search this monthly? |
|
Are there multiple affiliate programs or products? |
|
Are blogs (not just giants) ranking on Page 1? |
|
Is it trending up on Google Trends? |
|
Are there active communities around this topic? |
|
Can you see yourself writing 60 blog posts about it? |
✅ If you’ve got 5 or more Yes answers, your niche is looking strong.
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Let’s play a game: Spot the newbie blogger fail.
- Picking a niche you know nothing about just because it pays well.
- You’ll burn out faster than microwave popcorn.
- Choosing a niche with no clear audience or product to sell.
- If you can’t imagine who would buy something in your niche, neither can they.
- Assuming zero competition means it’s a hidden gem.
- Sometimes no competition just means no one cares. Like competitive knitting for hamsters.
Go With Confidence
Niche validation is the key to setting up your online income journey for long-term success.
Don’t skip this part.
It’s like checking if the ice cream machine is working before ordering that sundae.
Yes, it takes a little research.
Yes, you might second guess yourself.
But trust the process.
You’re not just picking a niche.
You’re picking your future.
You’re picking your $100-a-day machine.
And you want it to run smooth, not stall on Day 32 and leave you eating instant noodles.
Your Homework:
- Take your top 2-3 niche ideas.
- Run them through every step above.
- Pick the winner based on demand, competition, profit, and passion.
Tomorrow, we’ll move forward with that niche like a boss.
You’ll be buying that domain soon and planting your flag on the internet!
So rest up, research smart, and remember: tacos and good niches are worth the hunt.
