Day 7 of the 60-Day Challenge.

If you’ve made it this far, congrats!

You’ve picked a niche, you’re getting serious, and now… it’s time to give your blog a name.

Think of it like naming a pet, but this one might make you money instead of chewing your shoes.

Today’s mission: Brainstorm, research, and register a domain name that’s both memorable and brandable.

This will be the foundation of your online income machine.

What Is a Domain Name (and Why You Shouldn’t Name It After Your Cat)?

A domain name is your blog’s address on the internet.

It’s what people will type into their browser to find your site, like makemoneywithtacos.com.

Think of it as your digital real estate.

Why a Good Domain Name Matters:

  • First impressions count – You wouldn’t show up to a job interview in your pajamas (unless it’s a work-from-home gig).
  • SEO benefits – A well-chosen domain can help your blog rank.
  • Branding power – It needs to be sticky, like gum on a hot sidewalk.
  • Memorability – You want people to say, “Oh yeah, I read that on… [insert your awesome domain here].”

How to Brainstorm Domain Name Ideas (Without Melting Your Brain)

Let’s break it down step-by-step.

Step 1: Know Your Niche

Let’s say your niche is budget travel for families.

Your domain should reflect either:

  • The topic (travel, budget travel, family adventures)
  • The benefit (affordable trips, travel hacks, family fun)

Step 2: Get the Juices Flowing

Here are some tools and tricks to brainstorm like a boss:

🧠 Free Tools:

  • LeanDomainSearch.com
  • Panabee.com
  • BustAName.com

These tools can help with things like mixing words, flipping them, adding prefixes/suffixes, and often do everything but pour you coffee.

🪄 Word Mash-Up Ideas:

  • Budget + Explorer = BudgetExplorer.com
  • Thrifty + Trek = ThriftyTrekker.com
  • Nomad + Family = NomadNest.com

Step 3: Use Power Words

These words stick in the brain like a toddler’s song lyric:

  • Ninja
  • Guru
  • Hacks
  • Insider
  • Lab
  • Tribe
  • HQ
  • Vault

Example: TravelHackHQ.com, FamilyTripVault.com

Step 4: Consider the Domain Extensions

.com is still king.

It’s the one people instinctively type.

If it’s taken:

  • Try a different variation
  • Add a word like “blog” or “tips”
  • Or, consider .co, .net, or .blog (if you’re brave)

What to Avoid (Please Don’t Make These Mistakes)

Here’s a handy table of NOPE vs. YEP when it comes to domain naming:

Mistake
Why It’s Bad
Better Idea
Too long
Hard to type and remember
Keep it under 15 characters
Numbers or hyphens
Confusing and easy to forget
Use letters only
Misspellings
Looks shady
Use real words (please!)
Too generic
Won’t stand out in your niche
Get specific
Trendy slang
Ages like milk
Think long-term

Putting It All Together

The Checklist

Before you lock it in, make sure your domain is:

Short and simple
Easy to spell and pronounce
Niche-relevant or benefit-driven
Unique, not confusing
.com preferred
Available on social platforms (more on that tomorrow!)

Check If It’s Available (And Then Grab It Fast!)

Once you find a domain name you love, don’t sit on it.

Domains can vanish faster than cookies at a toddler’s birthday party.

Use These Sites to Register:

  • Namecheap.com (affordable, reliable)
  • GoDaddy.com (popular, often has promo deals)
  • Google Domains (clean UI, but being phased out in 2025)

Look for:

  • Free WHOIS privacy protection
  • Easy DNS management
  • Optional email services

Example

Freddy Finds His Domain 🧢

Let’s say Freddy is in the self-improvement for dads niche.

He brainstorms:

  • DadFuel.com (taken)
  • PowerPapa.com (also taken… the dads are ahead of us!)
  • He finally lands on: GrowthGearDad.com – available! ✅

He checks:

  • It’s short ✅
  • Easy to say ✅
  • .com is available ✅
  • Twitter/Instagram handles are free ✅

Freddy hits Buy, does a little happy dance, and treats himself to a cookie.

Final Tips Before You Decide

  • Sleep on it if you’re unsure. You’ll know in the morning if it still sounds genius.
  • Ask a friend (ideally one who isn’t afraid to roast you).
  • Say it out loud – if it sounds like a sneeze, it’s probably not great.

Homework for Day 7 ✅

  1. Brainstorm at least 20 domain ideas.
  2. Run them through domain checkers and social handle tools.
  3. Pick your favorite and register it.
  4. Celebrate with coffee or your snack of choice.

Remember: This is a big step.

You’re putting your flag in the digital soil.

Your niche blog is officially being born.

Don’t forget to bring cupcakes.

Let’s keep building.

You got this!
