Today, I’m going to show you how to put annotation links on Youtube videos. This is a great feature from Youtube, and it can really help you boost up the clicks to your site from your videos.
I recently came across this cool feature from Youtube. I’m not sure how long this feature has been around for, but it is definitely a new powerful feature for my videos. 🙂
Having an external annotation link ON your video, can really make a difference.
The ability to put an external annotation link on your video, is a feature you must Enable on your Youtube Account.
Login to your Youtube Account >> Go to ‘Creator Studio’ >> ‘Channel’ – and check if you have the ‘External Annotations’ Feature Enabled. If you do not, click on ‘Learn more’ and find out how you can enable this feature.
Note: Youtube only allows you to have ONE Associated Website per account. AND you must own the website, they will ask you to Verify it.
Once you have this Youtube Feature enabled, you are ready to set up your external annotation links on all of your videos!
How to Put Annotation Links On Youtube Videos – Step by Step
1 – Go to ‘Channel’ >> ‘Advanced’ | scroll down to see ‘Associated Website’
2 – Paste your Website URL >> Click on ‘Add’ >> Click on ‘Verify’
3 – Follow the Verification Instructions | for this example I will choose the Recommended ‘HTML file upload’ – you can also use the Alternate Methods
4 – For the Recommended ‘HTML File Upload’ Method, go to your Hosting Provider’s cPanel. I’m using the Hostgator cPanel for this example. Go to the ‘File Manager’
5 – Open the ‘public_html’ Folder >> Open your Domain Name’s Folder
6 – Once you are on your Domain Name’s Folder >> Click on ‘Upload’ >> Upload the Google Verification File you downloaded (step 3)
7 – Go back to ‘Channel’ >> ‘Advanced’ >> ‘Associated Website’ >> Click on ‘Refresh’
And you are ready to play around with the Annotations!! 😀 … yaaaaay!! lol
Let me show you how to place cool annotations on your videos.
1 – Go to the ‘Edit’ section for a video >> Click on ‘Annotations’ >> On Drop-down Menu Choose ‘Spotlight’
2 – Select what you want to make “Clickable” on your video, and for how long. Click on ‘Link’ >> On Drop-down Menu Choose ‘Associated Website’
3 – Paste your associated website, and Save/Apply the changes! 🙂
You are done!!
People can click somewhere on your video and go to your website now! …what a great feature, right!
