Are you struggling to get more visitors from search engines to your site?
Are you wondering why your site is not getting enough traffic even after posting quality content?
If you said yes to any of these questions: you’re either not doing keyword research at all or doing it all wrong.
Keyword research is the KEY to getting more traffic from search engines like Google.
You need to target LONG TAIL keywords if you want better results really quickly.
That’s how we increased our blog search traffic by 15% in just 30 days.
If you’re curious to increase your search traffic using long tail keywords, you need to get access to the proper keyword research tools.
Unfortunately, there are way too many tools out there for doing long tail keyword research but here’s the handpicked list of free tools for finding long tail keyword easily.
5 of the best free tools for finding long tail keywords quickly
Here are few of my favorite (they are free to use) tools for finding long tail keywords for SEO.
#1. Google’s keyword planner
Hands down, Google’s Keyword Planner is the #1 favorite tool for 90% of bloggers.
If you are starting a new site, Google keyword planner can be a great tool to begin your keyword research with.
By using this tool, you will get suggestions directly from Google which is the search engine that you want to target.
Pros:
- By far the best FREE keyword research tool. It’s a great tool, especially for beginners.
- Extremely easy to use.
- Provides a ton of keyword ideas.
- It provides the monthly search volume for any keyword
Cons:

- AdWords is omitting data to bias advertisers toward certain keywords.
- Used by almost everyone because of its popularity. Even if you find low competitive keywords, you still need to put extra efforts because of it.
- Not so accurate as other premium tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs etc
#2. KWFinder
Want to find long tail keywords with low competition?
KWFinder is the perfect tool for beginners to do long-tail keyword research.
What I like about this tool is that it gives instant results with a TON of long tail keyword ideas.
Pros:
- It provides Google SERP results with important SEO metrics like Domain Authority (DA), Page Authority (PA), backlinks information.
- It gives a list of long tail keywords for any given keyword including search volume.
- It also shows what domains are targeting for what keyword.
- It shows long tail keywords that your competitors can’t find.
Cons:
- You can only lookup 3 keywords per day (with their free tool).
#3. Keywordtool.io
It provides suggestions specific to the niche that a user mentions.
It uses a feature called “Google autocomplete”.
Just give a keyword of your niche and it will suggest relevant long tail keywords.
If you are using Google keyword planner for keyword research then it’s better to use keywordtool.io too.
Because this keyword tool captures lucrative long tail keywords where Google keyword planner is designed for advertisers.
You might already be aware of the Google suggestion tool, right?
When you scroll down to the bottom of Google’s search results, there you will find a section “Searches related to …”.
And you know, it is the gold mine to get long tail keywords.
For instance, when you type the keyword “Donald Trump”, at the end of search results, you’ll see something like this.
As you can see above, you’ll find a ton of useful long tail keyword suggestion for your entry keyword.
These keywords work great if you’re targeting long tail keywords.
Just type in a keyword of your niche, then scroll to the bottom of the page and take a look at “Searches related to …” for that keyword. You will get mixed variations of your main keyword.
Take any one result from “Searches related to …” for that keyword and search in Google again.
Repeat the process until you have a list of awesome keywords.
But here’s the thing, Google suggestion tool doesn’t give you too many keyword ideas.
Here’s where Keywordtool.io Google suggest tool comes into play as it’s a better alternative to the Google keyword suggestions and you can look up to 750 keyword ideas.
Pros:
- It is extremely fast and easy to use.
- It’s free for the first 750+ keyword suggestions. You need to sign up for the pro version to unlock much information like search volume, competition.
- You can also find long tail keywords for Youtube, Amazon, Bing and the APP store.
- It is at an affordable cost and worth every penny.
- It provides extremely accurate results.
Cons:
- To be honest, I never found any cons of using this tool (except that, you can get lot more data with their premium version).
#4. 7Search
7Search is another incredible tool that you can use for long tail keyword research.
Yes, it’s a less-known keyword research tool that most bloggers still NOT aware of.
But it can be really effective in finding low competitive long tail keywords to boost your search traffic.
Go to their advertising page, and enter a keyword of your choice to get keyword ideas.
This tool also displays the number of monthly searches for any keyword so you can get an idea about the keywords that generate the most traffic to your blog.
If you want to know pay per click traffic, this tool gives the idea of how much you will pay for each click related to the keyword you mention.
Pros:
- If you want to find commercial intent keywords, this is a great tool as it gives the CPC of each keyword.
- Finding low competitive keywords is easy.
Cons:
- This is exclusively designed for advertisers, so it’s mostly biased to favor ad related keywords (than informative keywords).
- You need to create an account to perform keyword research (if I’m using it only for finding keywords, I don’t really like creating an account, definitely a time sucker). But yea, I know the tool is designed for advertisers, so no one to blame here.
#5. Ubersuggest
It is a great free long tail keyword research tool.
You can use this tool for generating ideas for your long tail keyword articles.
It helps you to brainstorm and find keywords that people are searching for.
The beauty of the ubersuggest tool lies in its simplicity.
You can choose the language that you would like to search for.
Overall, it offers 42 different languages to choose from.
Don’t just stick to alphabets while searching, give numbers too. For example, “7 foods” or “7 foods for” etc.
Pros:
- It is a completely free tool and it does not limit its functions. You will have unlimited access to all of its features.
- It offers highly reliable data as it pulls the data from Google suggest.
- It is incredibly easy to use.
- It gives you tons and tons of keyword suggestions.
- It provides extremely relevant keyword suggestions.
Cons:
- Not possible to do advanced keyword research like you can’t see the accurate monthly search volume for keywords. It doesn’t show an accurate level of competition for any keyword which means it doesn’t give any search metrics.
Final thoughts about free keyword research tools in 2018
Long tail keywords are golden when it comes to increasing your search engine traffic quickly.
Even if you have a new website without a good backlink profile, you can still get first page results by targeting long tail keywords.

Hey Anil,
Welcome to Freddy’s home bro and thanks for the helpful tools.
I never heard of kwfinder before. I want to check it out this moment.
I use Neil’s Ubersuggest and Google’s keyword planner. The have almost the same results.
Thanks for mentioning 7search and keywordtool.io. These are all tools on my list but not really using them. Maybe it’s time to check them out ;)
Do have a wonderful week, you both
Hi Anil,
A collection of five tools is surely great. Needs vary with time even if the variation is minor and we can compare and go for the best tool for our purpose.
There might also be situations when we would like to compare the results of two tools. Also, based on the algorithm, one tool may give quicker and better results. So worth trying.
Thanks for sharing the information with us. Have a great day!

Hi Anil,
Nice to meet you here on Freddy’s space. Your article is incredibly amazing. Long-tail keywords are the current goldmine in terms of search rankings because they are less competitive and can easily rank high.
But the problem has always been how to and what tools to use to search for long-tail keywords. The good thing for bloggers is that your article simplified it for everyone. I will be giving some of this tools a try since I have been using SEMrush.
Thanks for sharing Anil.
Hey Anil,
I used Google Keyword Planner Tool but I Confused with “kwfinder.com” are best for keyword research.
Please suggest me
Hi Anil, hi Freddy,
It’s nice to e-meet you Anil!
Thank you for sharing these tools with us. Right now I’m using Ubersuggest and loving that tool. Before that I was using Google’s keyword planner and keyword tool.
This is the first time I’ve heard of 7Search. I’ll have to hop on over there to see what it’s about. You can never have too many tools, right? :)
Thank you again for putting this together for us. I really like how you shared the pros and cons for each tool. That’ll help us decide which one we feel would work for us.
Have a great day and rest of the week!
Cori
Hey Anil,
Welcome to Freddy’s blog. I love using different keyword tools to help me find the right keywords for my blog posts.
I’ve used Ubersuggest in the past and still find myself using it when I just want to do some quick and easy keyword research.
I’ve never heard of 7Search, but it looks like a pretty cool one to add to my arsenal.
Like Cori said, you can never have too many tools at your fingertips.
Thanks for taking the time to share these tools with us. I’ll have to spend some time playing around with some of them this weekend.
Have a great day :)
Susan
Hey there Anil,
I consider keyword research as one of the most important steps into SEO. Many beginners due to the lack of keyword research step into the most competitive niches such as blogging/SEO. They write long articles, do their best to get social shares and promotion, but at the end they think to get out of blogging because they can never rank for their terms.
There is also one thing that people should know when they use Google Keyword Planner (I was a victim too). Competition, it doesn’t mean how easy or hard is to rank for that keyword, but actually how many bids are done by advertisers for that keyword.
I never heard of 7search before, just checked it and it seems that it ceased it’s operations.
Great post, all bloggers should consider keyword research as their main traffic generation from Google.
Cheers,
Melos.
Thanks for sharing this article. Keyword research is one of the most important factor for any Online Business. it can help all Small, median and large scale Industries. In order to find Keywords I use Different tricks because Alone Google Keyword Planner would not provide Accurate results. I use Google Keywords Planner, Google Trend, Google Analytics, Search Engine, News Channels, Social Media. After research on all above tolls I select my Keywords which give my more than 60% Success in my business.
Hey Ensitne,
Thanks for your wonderful comment as always. There are indeed a lot of other amazing tools out there on the internet for mining those long tail keywords. Funny enough, we’re yet to discover a lot of them. The more you research on this, the more you find out you have a lot to check out.
However, all the tools I mentioned here are really super helpful. Talking about KWFinder, that is actually one of the best Keyword research tools I’ve used since I started blogging. It’s indeed very sophisticated and feature rich. I’m surprised you haven’t heard about it before, please endeavor to check it out, I’m sure you’ll instantly fall in love with it :).
Of cause, Neil’s Ubersuggest and the popular Google’s keyword planner has also being life savers for so many years now, a lot of people have used the Google’s keyword planner alone to build a successful blog in different niches. It’s just that it became a bit more complicated now since they stopped showing specific keyword monthly searches.
I’m also still using Keywordtool.io, and it’s equally a wonderful keyword research tool. Overall, all the tools here are really super helpful, but we can’t possibly be using all of them at the same time, we just have to figure out the ones that works best for us and stick with it.
Thanks for coming man, and do have a wonderful week.
Hi Naveen,
Thanks for such an awesome comment. Glad you like the post.
You’re absolutely correct with the points you made. There are a lot of keyword research tools out there and most times, It’ll be as if one tool is better than the other. For instance, when it comes to paid tools, I honestly feel that KWFinder is better than Long Tail Bro. The same thing applies to comparing Ahref and Semrush.
Most times, you have to compare 2 or more tools to decide which one really gives you what you want. If you stick to just one tool, there’s no way you’ll be able to find out if it’s really the best.
And like you also pointed out, different tools can equally provide different results sometimes. It goes to say that sometimes, while carrying out extensive keyword and market research, it’s advisable to use more than one tool and then combine their collective results for a better outcome.
In the end, you’ll be able to figure out exactly which tool is better for you.
Meanwhile, I’ve used a lot of long tail keyword research tools over the years, and I can tell you with all certainty that KWFinder is dope.
Thanks a bunch for stopping by Naveen, and do have a superb week.
Hi Moss,
I couldn’t have agreed more to the point you made here “Long-tail keywords are the current goldmine in terms of search rankings because they are less competitive and can easily rank high.”
You see, the problem is that most people still don’t know the benefits of targeting those long tail, low competition keywords on their articles. They still assume it’s best to go for the high search volume keywords because that’s where the traffic and money is. While that is true, It’ll take them a lot of time to rank for such keywords, except of course, they have a lot of money to spend on links.
As for finding great tools that will make it easy to source for long tail keywords, there are actually a lot of them on the internet, you just have to perform a little search, test a bunch of them and choose the one that’s best for you.
If you’re using Semrush, I think you should continue using as its one of the best out there. Except you’re using the free version.
Thanks for the comment bro, and do enjoy your week. BTW: Happy Easter.
Hey Neeraj,
Google Keyword Planner is a very wonderful keyword research tool. In fact, it’s one of the very first tools on the internet for performing keyword research.
However, it became a bit complicated lately since they stopped providing the exact search volume of keywords.
On the other hand, KWFinder is another breathtaking tool for mining lots of long tail keywords on any niche and industry. It has both free and premium version and while the free version will definitely be enough for you, you’re very limited to the information you gets from it hence, the reason to get the premium version.
However, if you’re on a low budget, I suggest you stick to Google Keyword Planner.
Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Cori,
I’m glad to have met you too. I’ve been to your blog a couple of times, you have such a wonderful thing going on there. Please do keep it up.
Yea, Ubersuggest is a great keyword research tool, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. I’ve been using it for years now, and can’t look back.
Google Keyword Planner and Keywordtool.io are also both amazing tools. It’s all about trying and different tools and then deciding on which of them works best for you. And like you said, you certainly can never have too many tools.
However, you can’t possibly be using all the tools at the same time. Taste and select one, and then stick to it.
Finally, 7search is Indeed a good tool as well, check it out and see for yourself.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
Hi Susan,
I agree with Cori too, we can never have too many tools. We have to keep on adding more and more of them to our arsenal because at one point in time, we’ll definitely need one of them.
Like you, Ubersuggest is also one tool I can never stop using. Ever since I discovered it 2 years ago, ice found myself using it over and over again even though I have some other related premium tools. Ubersuggest is just good at what it does.
I recently found 7search recently myself and since then, I’ve come to love it. Check it out ad well, I’m sure you’ll equally find it very useful.
I believe there are still a lot of other long tail keyword research tools out there that we’re yet to discover, it’s just a matter of time and we’ll still be discovering more better tools.
Thanks for this wonderful comment of yours as always Susan, and do have a wonderful week.
Hi Anil,
Pretty nice new list of keyword research tools for 2018. But you know what I loved a lot Google Keyword Planner than others, I got depressed because it comes now in a just so simple look that doesn’t contain enough data for analysis. I think Google shouldn’t do it. What you think about new look of GKP?
Thanks

i want to buy a keyword research tool. I am in confusion in between semrush vs KWfinder vs ahrefs. Which will better for Indian Education Niche Keyword Research?
Hey,Loved the post!Great artice, thank you for the information.i think these are the best 5 tools to find long tail keywords.
I personally used Long tails pro. But i am in love with keyword.io . It even helps in finding questions that are mostly asked.
Hi Anil and Freddy, I love the new one Ubersuggest by Neil Patel. I have used Google ad planner and keyword tools before but they are getting more complicated!
I’ve also used screaming frog.
Thanks for sharing the others with us and how to use them. Have a great new week ahead :)
Hi Anil,
Awesome list! a proper keyword research is more than half of the part of SEO. Google’s Auto suggests is the great way to grab some long tail keywords and other relevant ones..
These days there are many tools which helps out to get those Google’s Auto suggest keywords in just a click, UberSuggest is amazing. I came across a few more similar ones like LSIgraph, KeywordShitter. Though, never used 7search, thanks for recommending.
There are really a great time saver. Rest can be handled by Keyword Planner. These free keyword tools are always overlooked because it free but has a lot of potential. Whereas if a paid keyword is concerned SEMrush is the beast.
Have a great day ahead!

Hi,
As a link builder, I’m currently trying to do keyword research as well even though my specialty is off site SEO. I’m curious to experiment on this tools but I have tried using Google’s keyword planner and I was thought by an SEO specialist friend of mine who uses Screaming Frog. I think Screaming Frog is a really great tool but it comes with a budget. I’ll try to experiment these suggestions of yours thanks!
I think the problem with long tail keywords is its low search volume. What I dont understand is that if no body searches for it, whats the use. One of my blog I optimized for long tail keyword for https://data-flair.training/ ranker 8th in SERP but for a 3 words keyword that i did not optimize it for and that brought me traffic, not the long tail ones.
Now a day Email Marketing approach is very famous but our client attraction is very low due to short time, i am finding some way how ensure user will must read your email and get your goals.
Hi,
As keyword research is the one of the most important part of marketing and i really liked the way you have described about various keword research tools which one can use acoordingly. As i am new blogger i personally use google keyword planner and it gives good results.
Thanks, and keep it up
These days there are many tools which helps out to get those Google’s Auto suggest keywords in just a click…
Ubersuggest is really fabulous Anil. An absolute winner. I tested it before writing a sponsored post on the rocking tool. Not surprising either; the tool creator is pretty much The Man when it comes to doing SEO, Mr. Neil Patel. Easy, intuitive, and even an SEO dolt like me can use it seamlessly which definitely tickles my pickle.
Ryan

wow what a list. KWfinder looks like a true gem. I cant believe i hadnt heard of it. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Anil!
Really a very useful tool. However, Ubersuggest doesn’t show the search volume on monthly basis for that particular keyword. Any recommendation for free keyword research tool that also shows search volume (other than Google AdWords Planner) ??
I personally don’t like the new version of Google Keyword Planner. Please help with any such tool that meets similar requirements like Google Keywords Planner.
Once again thanks for this post!
Thanks
Stanley

Great List of tools. Really Appreciate it. Never used 7search, doesn’t seem to be working. Curious about it.
I will go with google keyword planner. It’s free and easy to use
Thanks a lot. This is a great list of keyword research tools. I found Google Keyword Planner the best to find niche keywords and KWFinder for getting some good LSI keywords for long tail keywords searches.
There are so many keyword research tools, but Google’s keyword planner is still the best one
I found that Google’s Key Word Planner is still the best from my own testing. Even scrolling down the search console performance tab can bring you a lot of good keyword ideas.
Thanks for the list of tools. I’ve checking on Google suggest mostly will take a look at 7 search today. I just bought ahrefs and I’m so inlove with it. It’s the best SEO tool on the market in my opinion. Especially for checking backlinks and getting ideas for content. This is why I need a good keyword tool next!
Thanks Anil! This was a fascinating read. I tend to use Moz, but I think in conjunction with other tools I can truly utilise SEO in the best way.

Hi Anil
Thanks for the information. I have never used 7search but i will surely search and get ideas.
So much thankful to have this list here. Recently i have used google keywords planner to do keyword research, but it is prompting to create a campaign, i have created and in final step prompting me to take to payment gateway, from there onwards i have stucked. Its not showing dashboard to go to keyword planner to search. i have tried my best ways to get that. But failed, and still trying. Any one can help me to access keyword planner.
Thank You.

Hey Anil,
Great post but I think you should remove 7search as it has been discontinued so.
The long tail is a great place to target for any online marketer, but especially for new websites without a strong link profile. Getting that traffic from the long tail is such a good motivator.
